There are shops that sell scientific equipment and chemical reagents, but you might need a licence to buy such violently reactive stuff as sodium, potassium and corrosive acids. way back 30 years ago, just almost anyone - even a high-schoolboy - can buy them without licence, provided that he could pay for them. Fortunately they were quite affordable.
Of course, I’ve done those almost 30 years ago when i was a high-school boy. I used sodium, potassium, hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid and nitric acid. WOW!!
